Our community came together this morning to observe Armistice Day.
Mr Walters and our Young Leaders led a poignant ceremony in the Stone Hall, during which the Young Leaders laid Howell’s poppy wreath and paid tribute to the four Hywelians who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring their names and stories will be remembered by all in attendance.
Spike D (Year 13) delivered a moving reading of Owen Sheers’ poem Mametz Wood, reflecting on the harrowing First World War battle in Northern France and highlighting the profound human cost of conflict. This was followed by a stirring performance of The Last Post by Karishma S-B (Year 11) and Mr Cheeke, which further enriched the reflective atmosphere.
The school then observed a two-minute silence, a solemn moment of remembrance for all who gave their lives in service.
Meanwhile, Year 6 students proudly represented Howell’s at the Llandaff Cenotaph Remembrance Service, laying a poppy wreath as a tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives in conflict.
Armistice Day served as a poignant reminder of the importance of remembrance, paying tribute to the past while inspiring hope for a more peaceful future.
