Last week marked the conclusion of this year’s College Lecture Programme at Howell’s, culminating in an engaging and thought-provoking final lecture delivered by Rhianne Henderson.
Our bespoke lecture programme is designed to foster a culture of curiosity, critical thinking and academic ambition, encouraging students to explore a wide range of disciplines through talks delivered by experts at the forefront of their fields. Throughout the 2025–26 academic year, Howell’s College students benefited from a rich and diverse programme spanning history, science, architecture, literature, design and culture.

Rhianne Henderson (Imperial College London), who closed the programme with a fascinating exploration of bioengineering and social media, offering insight into her work as a PhD candidate in biomedical engineering.

Dr Robert Knowles, who delivered an intriguing talk on Russian shipwrecks and the symbolism of “red flags,” bringing history vividly to life.

Dr Peter N. Lindfield FSA, Welsh School of Architecture, who examined how Welsh architecture has shaped and contributed to the global stage.

Max Mitchell, a final-year PhD researcher at the Hodge Centre for Translational Neuroscience at Cardiff University, who shared cutting-edge research into the role of the cerebellum in neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders.
Each lecture provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with advanced academic ideas and contemporary research, broadening their perspectives beyond the classroom. The programme continues to be a cornerstone of intellectual life at Howell’s, inspiring students to pursue knowledge with curiosity and confidence.
