Developing leadership through creativity and collaboration

This week, our College students stepped into leadership roles as they worked with Prep School girls in Years 4–6 on an exciting creative challenge.

Working in mixed-age teams, students were tasked with transforming an everyday paperclip into anything but a paperclip, using it as inspiration for a brand-new product. With guidance and coaching from our young leaders, each group then prepared a Dragons’ Den/Apprentice-style pitch, showcasing problem-solving, creative thinking, and plenty of imagination.

From an alternative to a pet rock you could “tell your secrets to”, to “tiny handcuffs for pesky garden squirrels”, and even a line of jewellery that doubles as an emergency lock pick, the ideas were as innovative as they were entertaining.

Throughout the process, our College students supported their teams by organising ideas, navigating group roles, and preparing confident presentations, building their own leadership, communication, and mentoring skills along the way.

Moments like these highlight the power of cross-age collaboration. Younger students gain confidence and creative independence, while older students experience firsthand what it means to inspire, guide, and lead.

A brilliant afternoon of creativity, teamwork, and bold thinking all round.
