Earlier this month, a group of our students had the incredible opportunity to take part in the GDST Space Technology Programme at the world-renowned Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.
Hosted by the GDST Trust, the day was filled with hands-on learning, inspiring conversations and industry exposure within the UK’s thriving space sector — including access to experts from the European Space Agency. One of the highlights of the day was a keynote talk from Libby Jackson OBE, a leading figure in human spaceflight and space exploration in the UK.
Our students also took part in:
- A coding challenge focused on satellite pointing systems
- Speed mentoring with women working in the space industry
- Networking over lunch with specialists and innovators
- A guided tour of Harwell’s cutting-edge facilities
The event offered a valuable insight into real-world space operations, emerging technologies and potential career pathways — from internships and apprenticeships to future scientific research. We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented Howell’s with such enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit. Scroll through the photos below to see our young scientists in action!
