Designed for Girls

Girls-only education offers significant benefits, including better academic performance and increased confidence. Research shows that girls in single-gender schools outperform their peers, particularly in STEM subjects. A 2021 Independent Schools Council study found girls in girls-only schools score, on average, 10% higher in STEM GCSEs (“The Impact of Girls-Only Education,” ISC, 2021). At Howell’s, we provide an environment where girls excel without gender stereotypes.

Girls-only education also boosts self-esteem and leadership skills. A National Foundation for Educational Research study found 95% of girls from single-sex schools feel “prepared for leadership” roles (“Girls’ Education: Unlocking Potential,” NFER, 2021). At Howell’s, students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and participate in activities like sports, drama, and debating.

By removing gender barriers, girls-only education fosters risk-taking, self-expression, and academic focus, creating an environment that nurtures both personal growth and well-being.

A Thriving Co-Curricular Life

Education at Howell’s extends far beyond the classroom. We offer an exciting range of co-curricular activities that allow students to explore their passions and talents, including:

  • Sporting Excellence: A variety of teams and clubs in athletics, hockey, netball, and more
  • Music & Performing Arts: Choirs, orchestras, drama productions, and Speech & Drama lessons
  • Clubs & Societies: Book Club, Debating, STEM Club, Eco Club, and many more
  • Trips & Residentials: Day trips, adventure camps, and overseas cultural experiences
  • Fundraising & Community Involvement: Charity events, non-uniform days, and partnerships with organisations such as Maggie’s and Latch

Our co-curricular programme ensures students build confidence, resilience, and friendships while pursuing their interests.

A Phone-Free School Day

We are committed to fostering an environment that supports academic focus, social development, and mental well-being. To help achieve this, we have introduced a no-phone policy for Years 7-11, creating a distraction-free learning space.

To ensure a smooth transition, we use Yondr phone pouches. Students secure their phones upon arrival and keep them locked away during the school day. This system allows them to enjoy a tech-free learning environment while still having access to their devices after school. In case of urgent messages, parents can always reach their child via the School Office.
