Professional Development & Lifelong Learning

We are dedicated to fostering excellence by offering support and opportunities that inspire and empower our teams.

 

We believe that when our staff are passionate, motivated, and continuously learning, our students benefit the most. That’s why we offer a range of learning and growth initiatives, helping our educators stay engaged, foster a love for teaching, and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in their fields.

We encourage ambition and progression in a number of ways; 

1. We will support you during your probationary period – we offer all teachers the opportunity to observe others, a buddy to talk to and share ideas with, and regular 121s with our middle leaders, to ensure you are settling and adapting to life at Howell’s. 

2. We will ask you to identify your areas of interest through termly Continuous Conversations with your line manager, whether formal training or developing a particular area of expertise, and facilitating these where possible. 

3. We will encourage you to access GDST Learn, the online training portal which includes courses on teaching and learning, pastoral care, leadership and management, and diversity and inclusion. 

4. We ensure our INSET days are relevant and supportive, including opportunities for CPD, wellbeing and to reconnect with colleagues.   

5. We have a provision for study leave for teaching staff (following a qualifying period of service), to allow staff to take time away from the classroom and return with renewed enthusiasm and inspiration for our students.
